Danielle Callegari
is Associate Professor of Italian at Dartmouth College, where she specializes in medieval Italian literature and transhistorical food and beverage studies. In addition to her many contributions to academic and trade publications, she is author of the book Dante’s Gluttons: Food and Society from the Convivio to the Comedy. Her second book A Bite-Sized History of Italy: Tales of the Roman Empire, Renaissance, and Republic will be out in 2026 with The New Press.
She is also the Communications Director for the Dante Society of America.
Since 2022 she has been a Writer at Large for Wine Enthusiast magazine, where she reviews the wines of Tuscany and southern Italy and covers about all Italian wine and spirits alongside her colleague Jeff Porter.
With her friend Katie Parla she co-hosts Gola, a podcast dedicated to Italian food and beverage culture available on all platforms. As a Gola Patron listeners have special access to content and events.
She is co-founder of enogastronomic-focused travel company Cabinet Travel, with her friend and fellow Italian Ph.D. Carmen Gomez. Together they host bespoke guided tours of Italy dedicated to food and beverage culture and history.
